MIKE STEEP — Mike joined us in the
Fall of 2006 after graduating from Missouri State University with a degree
in Music Education. He had his first experience with the trumpet when
he was 11 years old after finding his Dad’s old horn tucked away in a
closet. After a few lessons with Dad, he signed up for band in 6th
grade and has been playing ever since. He went on to attend St. Charles
West High School and was eventually selected as the lead trumpet player for
the Missouri All-State Jazz Band.
While at Missouri State, Mike performed with the 300-member Pride Marching
Band, the University Wind Ensemble, and the University Jazz Ensemble – all
of which performed at nationally recognized events. Mike played lead
trumpet with the MSU Jazz Ensemble at the 2005 Midwest International Band
and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago (his second performance at this prestigious
event – the first being with St. Charles West in 1999). In addition to his
two performances at Midwest, Mike has also performed at the Missouri Music
Educators Association State Convention 6 times – most recently with the
Gateway City Big Band in 2007.
Mike is the band director at Northeast Middle School in St. Louis County’s
Parkway School District and is currently serving as the St. Louis Suburban
Music Educators Vice-President of Middle School Jazz Band. His wife,
Erin, also graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in Music
Education and is a band director at Marquette High School in St. Louis
County’s Rockwood School District.
Mike and Erin live in O’Fallon, Missouri and have two sons, Jack and Nick.
